Peanut Butter Irish Coffee is a fun spin on a classic made with brown sugar, coffee, peanut butter whiskey topped with a homemade peanut butter whiskey whipped cream and creamy peanut butter drizzle.
It has been a while since sharing a peanut butter whiskey recipe so I decided to revamp a brunch classic. A classic Irish Coffee has strongly brewed coffee, a little brown sugar and shot of whiskey with a layer of whipped cream floating on top. The perfect weekend brunch drink that is warm, cozy and pairs with basically anything you would want to consume at breakfast. Today, I added the element of peanut butter.
Peanut Butter Irish Coffee
Peanut Butter Irish Coffee is an indulgence for all my coffee lovers out there. Starts with a base of peanut butter whiskey and brown sugar. Strongly brewed coffee is poured in and stirred. Then, the creamy whipped topping layer is added to the top. This isn’t any whipped cream though… it’s a spiked peanut butter whiskey whipped cream! Don’t even file this recipe under drinks… just put into your “self care” section in life right next to bubble baths and manicures because it is guaranteed to lift your spirit.
Peanut Butter Whiskey
I have made a few really great drinks with Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey like the Peanut Butter Cup Whiskey Martini and Peanut Butter Whiskey Milkshakes. This Peanut Butter Irish Coffee is up there with my two favorites. Peanut Butter Whiskey may sound odd but trust me, it will surprise you! It is smooth, tasty and a really fun liquor to create unique drinks with.
Peanut Butter Whiskey Whipped Cream
My favorite element of this Peanut Butter Irish Coffee is the whipped cream layer. I think the whipped cream part of an Irish Coffee is important to get right but so often overlooked and I made sure to take it up a notch today. My peanut butter whiskey whipped cream has Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey, heavy cream and confectioners sugar (powdered sugar). Unlike most whipped creams that are really fluffy and hold shape, the whipped cream for a Irish coffee should be soft and pour right into your mug to float on top of the coffee.
Tips & Tricks
I think using a hand mixer is the easiest way to make whipped cream. I highly recommend placing the beaters and a stainless steel or glass bowl you will be using into the freezer to chill beforehand for 10 minutes or so. A chilled bowl will help keep the cream chilled while whipping.
Usually when making whipped cream, you want to beat the cream until you have reached a stiff peak. Meaning when the beaters are removed, the whipped cream will stand up and keep its shape. For the type of whipped cream we want for an Irish coffee, you want to have it loose bringing it to a soft peak. Meaning when the beaters are removed, the whipped cream will flop over instead of holding shape. The whipped cream is still light and fluffy but loose enough to pour and float over coffee.
